Sri Lanka is a tiny island situated below its giant neighbour, India. The rolling surf, ancient ruins, world famous tea and spicy curry are just a few treats that await you on this paradise island. The capital, Colombo, has been given an extensive facelift following the end of the country’s thirty year civil war in 2009. The roads are teaming with people on the move and it is hard to miss the iconic tuk tuks; a quintessentially Sri Lankan feature that never fails to thrill foreign visitors. While this could prove to be a novel way to travel short distances, longer distances around the country can be covered by air taxi. Sri Lanka is home to terraced hills, covered in blankets of tea; temples, high atop mountains and endless palm fringed beaches. A bird’s eye view of these unique attractions and many others can easily be described as breathtaking; they can also all be covered in less than sixty minutes. Book a flight with Cinnamon Air, a reputed name in Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry, and wing your way through a truly memorable sightseeing trip.
Exploring Sri Lanka’s South Coast, one will come across the small fishing town of Dickwella. Located twenty two kilometers east of Matara City, it can be identified by its long stretch of unspoiled beach. Shallow waters, surrounded by a reef make Dickwella Beach ideal for paddling. The coastal town is the home of the largest seated Buddha statue in the country. Parts of the town were destroyed in the Boxing Day Tsunami that struck in 2004, including the location of the local market, which has since been rebuilt. The market is held every Saturday beside the beach. Stilt fisherman, with backdrop of a golden sunset, are another unique sight that one can witness in this area. Other well-known beaches are also located only a stone’s throw away from Dickwella: Tangalle, Rekawa, Kudawella and Hambantota.
