A holiday to the world famous United Arab Emirates (UAE) is generally filled with endless shopping and pampering oneself at the array of luxury hotels and resorts that fill the cities, like the luxurious PER AQUUM Hotels & Resorts, for example. However, once you move past the bustling souqs and glamorous nightlife, it’s time to head out of the city and explore.
A day-long trip is often a refreshing escape from the noise of the city, plus, it gives you the opportunity to see and try new experiences. From hair-raising thrills at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Park to brushing up on history at museums in Ajman, there are plenty of activities to try; all of which can be enjoyed over the course of a day.
A trip to the UAE isn’t complete until you steer a 4-wheel drive through the enormous dunes that make up the desert expanse. Dubai’s Al Badayer sand dune, commonly known as ‘Big Red’ is nothing short of spectacular. Weekends will find this desert spot crawling with motorists attempting the dune with dune buggies, quad bikes and jeeps. If you’re looking for something a bit tamer, you can rent sand boards and surf your way down.
Animal lovers will enjoy a visit to Abu Dhabi’s Falcon Hospital. Here you can view these noble birds up close and learn about their history and close ties to Arab culture. Initially begun as a small facility to treat injured birds, the hospital has since grown to include educational tours, as well as training and research.
Families will enjoy a day trip to the Sharjah Desert Park, which features three zones; Sharjah Natural History and Botanical Museum, the Arabian Wildlife Centre and a Children’s Farm. The interactive exhibits at the museum are entertaining, while the Children’s farm allows kids to feed and pet animals. The Arabian Wildlife Centre is home to over 100 native species and includes a walk-through aviary, reptile section, and nocturnal exhibit. And since it’s entirely indoors, visitors can view the wildlife in air-conditioned comfort.
