Entopia, located in Teluk Bahang, Penang, is a captivating butterfly sanctuary nestled in the heart of nature. Known as the largest butterfly farm in Malaysia, Entopia offers visitors a mesmerizing journey into the world of butterflies and insects. Spanning across 80,000 square feet of natural tropical habitat, the sanctuary is home to over 15,000 free-flying butterflies.
Short Overview
Entopia opened its doors in 2016 following the transformation of the renowned Penang Butterfly Farm, much like a butterfly emerging from its pupa stage to reach new heights. Joseph Goh, son of Penang Butterfly Farm owner David Goh and the visionary behind Entopia, aimed to establish the premier insect sanctuary in Southeast Asia. A reasonable distance from most choices of hotel in Georgetown Penang, such as the well-known Travelodge Georgetown Penang, you won’t regret visiting this place!
The Entopia Mystery Cave
Natureland starts with a cave where visitors can observe various creatures, including frogs and insects such as the giant centipede. They can also encounter a variety of Central and South American tarantulas like the Guatemalan tiger rump, Brazilian red and white tarantulas, and Mexican Red Knee tarantulas.
The Home Tree
Natureland’s centrepiece is the Home Tree, a towering concrete structure and one of Entopia’s main landmarks. Butterflies frequent this area, attracted to the elevated platforms where Entopia’s staff places slices of fruit, particularly pineapples, to feed these hungry insects.
The Dragon Path
This expansive section of Entopia is home to reptiles like Kuhl’s Flying Gecko and the Green Iguana, which can be observed up close. While some reptiles are housed in glass enclosures, the tranquil iguana enjoys ample open space within a small garden featuring a pond and tall grass.
