Bali is, of course, a splendid destination for food. The local cuisine of Bali, although being a combination of several other world-wide cuisines, is unique because of its use of spices and flavours.
Rice is given prominence
In Bali, Rice is the staple food. It’s known as a sacred food too because the Balinese community believes rice to be sent by the Gods. You may have heard the name of a famous dish known as ‘nasi campur’ very often if you dine at any restaurant belonging to a Bali resort hotel the likes of Anantara Seminyak Bali Resort. It is a scoop of mixed rice accompanied by small portions of meat, vegetables, shrimp and even peanuts. This is the undisputed signature dish of the island and is a definite must-try for those visiting!
The Sambal- the most common
The Balinese sambal is another staple that you will come across a lot during your foodie adventures. This is a portion of spicy food, so if tourists are averse to too spicy food (which is the case in most instances), they can request Tanpa sambal which is less spicy.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
The Balinese community is fine with just a coffee for breakfast. But lunch- which is the main meal for them – is normally taken seriously. Popular dishes such as fried rice, fried chicken, steamed vegetables, and fried peanuts, are usually some of the dishes consumed for lunch. This is the same for dinner too.
The Street Food Cultures
Food stalls and mobile traders usually have the best street food in Bali. Although the most authentic food is sold by them, it is advised to be a little cautious when it comes to choosing street food, due to risks of falling ill during your holiday.
