Lion Rock
The Lion Rock hike is a classic, and for good reason! This iconic trail that can be reached from a Kowloon hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, boasts an epic viewpoint overlooking this part of the city and even up to Hong Kong Central. The lion-shaped rock at the top offers the ideal vantage point to witness a fiery sunset as well. The loop trail is roughly 6.9 kilometres and takes 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your summit stop. While the initial climb is manageable, the final ascent is a challenging but rewarding feat!
Tate’s Cairn
Tai Lo Shan or Tate’s Cairn is a mountain that offers a hidden gem amongst Kowloon hiking trails. Its allure lies in the incredible vistas that await at the summit. On one side, you will be greeted with sprawling panoramas of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, while the other side unveils majestic vistas of the New Territories. The full route is around 5.5 kilometres, but a shorter option exists. Take a taxi from Choi Hung MTR Station to the Tate’s Cairn Meteorological Station for a more relaxed hike that is about half the distance.
Garden Hill
Garden Hill is the perfect option when it comes to hiking in Hong Kong for those seeking more of a leisurely stroll rather than a strenuous adventure! This gentle 800-metre ascent takes only about 10 minutes, making it an ideal option for a quick escape from the city bustle. Despite the ease of the climb, the views of Kowloon are still awe-inspiring. Plan your visit for a captivating sunset, and watch the city transform into a glittering spectacle under the stars as night falls.
