While the beaches and full moon parties of Koh Phangan are renowned, this Thai island is also home to some idyllic waterfalls like those mentioned below that are well worth visiting.
Than Sadet Waterfall
This waterfall is in the national park of the same name and is one of the most popular tourist attractions here, easy to access from accommodation providers that feature special hotel deals in Koh Phangan Than Sadet Waterfall is set amidst huge boulders and freshwater pools where you can have a relaxing dip, and interestingly, it was visited by King Rama V whose inscription can be found at this site too.
Than Prawet Waterfall
Those who love hiking off the beaten path can plan a trip to the Than Prawet Waterfall; it can be reached from Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach which offers ideal accommodation options at properties like Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas. Featuring a collection of smaller falls, Than Prawet is not large, but it does offer a picturesque setting with small pools to unwind in. The initials that King Rama V carved onto a rock on a visit can also be found here!
Phaeng Waterfall
In the central part of the island is the Phaeng Waterfall in the Than Sadet – Koh Phangan National Park. This cascading beauty consists of two waterfalls; the first of these is easy to get to from the entrance of the park and has a natural pool as well. For more adventure, make the trek (around 250 metres) to the second waterfall which is more impressive, while further on, you will come across an amazing viewpoint too.
Wang Sai Waterfall
A relatively quiet spot, Wang Sai Waterfall is in the northern part of Koh Phangan and instead of one large cascade, features water flowing down several levels over large boulders. Some of the areas have natural pools including the largest one at the bottom, perfect when you want to cool off amidst nature’s tranquillity. As with many of the waterfalls here, the best visitor experience at Wang Sai is in the wet / rainy season (July to October).
