Constructed in 1918, Turtle Head Island is made up of a large park that covers an area of around 75 acres and which has several scenic spots and classical Chinese gardens that one can visit. Visitors to the island can begin their tour by passing through the Lishe and Jianjin gates before reaching the Changchun Bridge. Those visiting this spot during spring will be further greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of cherry blossom trees in full bloom.
Among the fascinating places of interest within the park are the 18 metre tall statue of Heaven Emperor, the three-mount Taoist temple, Guangfu Temple, Jiangnan Orchid Garden and the 800 metre long Sino-Japan Friendship Oriental Cherry Plantation which is particularly spectacular during late March and late April when the trees are in bloom. Visitors can also head to Chongshan Hill where one will find a tranquil environment made up of scenic woods and paths set amidst sweet smelling flowers, while those looking to enjoy panoramic views of the lake can head to the park’s highest point which can be found on Luding Hill.
