Getting There
Part of the Poonagala Tea Estate,this viewpoint is around 32 km from Haputale.Those in search of places to visit in Bandarawela can also easily visit this site which is approximately 20 km away. It can be reached when travelling along the Bandarawela-Koslanda Road; keep a lookout for the marked entrance point.
The Journey Begins
Ideal for an excursion from properties like Bandarawela Hotel, the trail from the entrance up to Pilkington Point takes around one hour by foot and is set amidst tea estates and amazing views. Of course, by vehicle, it takes only a matter of minutes to reach the viewpoint. Either way, do remember to dress for cold weather and blustery winds!
Stunning Panoramas
Situated around 1,400metres above sea level, this viewpoint which was named after the Poonagalla Group’s first manager, Sir George Pilkington, provides some of the most spellbinding vistas of the region. Misty mountains and enchanting valleys will fill your view, while on a clear day, you may even see up to the south coast.
Millennium Point
If you crave more adventure, continue your ascent up to Millennium Point. This viewpoint can be reached by foot (around 45 minutes) and since it’s at a higher elevation than Pilkington Point you can expect an even better vantage point. Do be mindful of wildlife and if you see animals like elephants avoid engaging with them.
