Amongst the most beautiful attractions in Laos, Kuang Si Waterfall is not to be missed on a visit that can be enjoyed by the whole family; here’s more on this captivating site.
Planning Your Visit
This attraction is around 29 km from Luang Prabang which makes an ideal base for your travels. For added convenience, properties like Avani+ Luang Prabang will help organise the excursion with options for a private cruise as well. Alternatively, you can hire a motorcycle or a tuk-tuk or catch a minibus from the Naluang Bus Station.
What to Expect
Once you reach your destination from one of the Luang Prabang hotels, expect to come across a truly inspiring sight; featuring three tiers, the 50-metre-high Kuang Si Waterfall is set amidst a jungle with many shallow natural pools created as it flows down. The climate here is cooler too making it a great spot to unwind.
Things to Do
Swimming or enjoying a leisurely dip in the natural pools is a popular activity as well as swinging from a rope tied to a tree and jumping into the water! You can also hike to the top of the falls and take in some mesmerising views. Additionally, this site is a great spot for a picnic (remember not to litter!), while you can visit the Kuang Si Falls Butterfly Park as well.
Best Time to Visit
Generally, the ideal time to visit these falls is from December to about April or May during the dry season period; from July to October, swimming or hiking here can be made unsuitable due to monsoon rains. The site is usually open from 8:00am to 5:00pm; because of its popularity, look to visit early morning and on weekdays to avoid the crowds.
