Travelling about 90km to the South of Sydney, you come across Lake Illawarra, a serene location that has given rise to a whole community around it. It is wedged right between the Pacific Ocean and Illawarra ridge. Due to this unique location, the lake is fed with both fresh water and sea water – fresh water from the ridge and sea water brought into the lake during high tide – making the water consistency that of a lagoon.
The peacefulness and the activity around the lake has led this to be a favourite place for many a Warilla holiday house visitor to visit towards the evening. As it is quite close by, only a half an hour away from Emerald + Aqua Holiday Homes, there is no lack of visitors to the area. Visitors tend to spend the evenings walking on the boat ramp snapping pictures, engaging in a spot of fishing or prawning, and trying their hand at all types of water sports. As the lake is about 10km in length and 6km in width, there definitely is plenty of space for everyone to have a bit of space to themselves. If you live close by and has a boat of your own, you can make a request to use one of the 13 boat ramps of Lake Illawarra. If you fancy venturing into the water, you can hire a boat or a catamaran that are docked nearby.
If you are a fan of outdoor family time, Lake Illawarra has many options for you. You could rent one of the caravans that are available on the premises, or come here on a holiday in your own caravan. There is a reserve right on the foreshore of the lake called Reddall Reserve that is quite famous among families. It is an ideal location for a picnic, and has a play area especially for children. The basic amenities of a public park are available here, as well, to make things much easier for you.
