If there’s any city which is considered the commercial capital of a country, needless to say, that city is automatically and inevitably busy! Colombo in Sri Lanka is of no difference. But, Colombo is equally beautiful and charming. Sometimes, you find some things in Colombo that you would never have imagined coming across in a busy city like that, and that’s how amazing it is.
-Colombo and the neighbourhoods
Colombo is often known as the city with everything. The city has them all, be it cafes, restaurants, hotels, temples, churches, mosques, shopping malls, street markets or gardens. It’s a city that can be explored within just a day or two, but you should have a proper plan.
-Cinnamon Gardens (Colombo 07)
Although the entire Colombo 07 is all about posh houses, classy restaurants and hotels today, this huge area had cinnamon cultivation back in the day. And, yes… that’s how this city got its name! Attractions such as Independence Square and Viharamaha Devi Park are located here, and there are more than enough classy shopping hubs too.
-Park Street and Slave Island (Colombo 02)
Slave Island is the land area in Colombo that’s surrounded by Beira Lake. A lot of new construction projects happen here, and it’s an ideal area for a walk because the surroundings are nice and picturesque. Park Street is home to the infamous ‘Gangaramaya Temple’- a Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka that you should visit at least once.
-Kollupitiya (Colombo 03)
Home to the ever-loving hospitality hub for local and foreign travellers ‘NH Collection Colombo‘, Kollupitiya is also one of the coolest neighbouring cities to Colombo. It’s a highly commercialized area with banks, government offices, mass-scale shopping complexes and restaurants, but it’s also a city where people from different ethnicities live in harmony.
Almost every Colombo City hotel located here offers beautiful seaside views, and you can’t just miss out on it!
