Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka and is located on the West Coast of the island. The city is home to a diverse community which makes it a great place to visit. There are also a handful of attractions around here which are worth checking out. As part of the recent facelift, the city has been getting a notable number of Colombo boutique hotels that have been coming up to accommodate travellers seeking a luxurious city escape.Having said that there is also no shortage in hostels and motels. This varying range of accommodation has allowed the city to welcome various types of travellers bringing in, even more, diversity.
However, one of the key concerns when visiting a new place is the weather! Often referred to as the sunny island, Sri Lanka too has its moods! Colombo has an average temperature between 28oC and 31oC with a very humid atmosphere. However, the temperatures drop below average between the months of November and March to about 22oC. The rainfall pattern fluctuates and depends on the dry and wet seasons. The monsoon too has a great impact not only in Colombo but also on the rest of the island. The monsoon occurs in two different time periods during the year. December to March is the North East monsoon and the South Western monsoon occurs May to October. May also records the highest rainfall in most months. The hottest month is often April with chances of temperatures shooting up to about 35o Celsius, a perfect way to beat it is to take a dip in one of the pools in the city, such as the one found at Colombo Courtyard Boutique Hotel in its central Colombo location.
It may be useful to plan activities around the weather patterns; however, given the day and age we live in weather patterns to have become unpredictable. It’s always handy to carry an umbrella to protect you from both the rain and sun.
