The sheer exquisite beauty of the drive is enough to leave you feeling euphoric while the numerous attractions that prevail in the area offer you a rather impressive amalgamation of natural and historical aspects. These include the Old Fort of Quriyat and the city of ruins in Qalhat with two of the most scenic Wadis of Oman – Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi. You could also veer off the road and take a route across the summits of the Eastern Hajjr to pay a visit to the Bronze-age tombs of Jaylah. Once you have passed these many alluring sights you will come to the city of Sur which serves as the centre for Oman’s ship-building industry. There are quite a few accommodation establishments such as resorts and many a hotel in Sur, Oman such as the Sur Plaza Hotel among many others where you could stay the night on your way.
The Sharqiya Coastal Highway offers access to then eastern cost of Sharqiya and takes travelers from the south to Sur in a little over an hour. The highway is said to have provided a huge helping hand to the development of the area although some have argued that it takes a toll on the natural sites that are encountered along the way.
