Standing at an impressive 1,954 feet, the Canton Tower acts not just as a tourist attraction but also as a radio and television transmission facility. After five years of construction, the tower was declared opened to the public on the 1st of October 2010 just in time for the 16th Asian Games. The celebrated Dutch architect duo Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit who are behind the design of the tower says that they “wanted to create a tower “female”, complex, transparent, curvy and gracious”. This might be the reason why the tower is nicknamed the ‘Supermodel’.
The Canton Tower is located in the heart of the city, by the banks of the Pearl River. There’s plenty of options ranging from hostels to budget hotels and luxury hotels in Guangzhou, the likes of the Ascott Guangzhou; that one can turn to when looking for good accommodation. The most popular way of travelling to the tower is to take the subway line 3 and get off at the Canton Tower Station and get out from Exit A.
Once you reach the Canton Tower complex there’s much to see and do. Number one is to visit its horizontal Ferris wheel which is said to be the ‘World’s Highest Observation Wheel’. This is the ideal spot to witness the magnificence of the city, especially at night, as you get gorgeous panoramic views. Among other attractions is the ‘longest vertical and rotary aerial ladder’ which stands above 160 meters high. Watch a movie at the ‘highest 4D movie theater’ and enjoy an exquisite dinner at the ‘highest revolving restaurant’. The Canton Tower has wonders for all!
