Langkawi Cable Cars or Langkawi Sky Cabs are gondolier type cable cars which are a ‘must do’ for visitors to Langkawi. These cable cars form a link between the tourist attraction of the Oriental Village at Teluk Burau in the foothills of the Machincang Mountain Range and Gunung Machang, the second highest peak in Langkawi also home to the 2.2 km long Langkawi SkyBridge.
The base Station for the Sky cabs is located at the Oriental Village, the architecture of which showcases Malaysian and Oriental styles. The Skydome, a 360 degree panorama dome theatre offers views of the spectacular vistas here to hold waiting visitors. The gondolas arrive about every 30 seconds at the Base Station. The Middle Station at an elevation of 650 meters above sea level gives visitors the chance to leave gondolas and walk to the viewing platforms to enjoy the stupendous tropical vistas unfolding before them. Or they can opt to continue in the gondolas to the top Station located at 708 metres above sea level with a temperature cooler than that of the lowlands. The cascading waters of the Telagu Tujuh (7 Wells Waterfall) is a sight to behold. There is also an inclinator called Skyglide and a trail to the Langkawi SkyBridge. A 2.5 walking trail, the Sky Trail leads from the Top Trail to the Middle Station and the Seven Wells water fall. It is inadvisable to attempt to walk the Sky Trail unguided. It is best to obtain the services of a naturalist guide.
