Bundala National Park is located in the Hambantota district and is one of the highly recommended things to do in Galle Sri Lanka.
The Park
Bundala National Park covers an area of 6216 hectares and in 1969 was declared as a bird sanctuary due to the number of birds that made the park their home.
Birds
There are over 200 species of birds from Bee-Eaters to Open-Billed Storks, Greater Flamingo, Blue-Faced Malkoha, Spoonbill, Greater Flamingo, Crested-Hawk Eagle, Spot-Billed Pelican and peacocks to name a few. Season
The ideal season to visit this park is during the months of September to March. December is the peak season to be in Sri Lanka and if you’re planning a trip during this month, book your hotel stay well in advance.
Other animals
For animal lovers and nature enthusiasts, the park is also home to a number of crocodiles, leopards, barking and sambar deer, giant squirrels and even sloth bears.
