Australia’s Gold Coast is best known for its beaches, including the internationally celebrated stretch of beach at Surfers Paradise. Move away from the golden beaches and you’ll find a chilled, welcoming community, a booming food culture, and of course, the ever famous theme parks that dot the city. A top favourite among eastern Australia’s holiday destinations, the Gold Coast offers an abundance of fun and entertaining activities for everyone to enjoy. Family accommodation in Gold Coast is plentiful, with chilled, beach side accommodation, like the Oaks Calypso Plaza, for example, an apartment styled hotel, which is popular among large families.
The Gold Coast strip may look all the same to the casual observer, but ask any local and they’ll tell you exactly where the best beaches are and what makes each one special. Currumbin Creek, for instance, may sound far from exciting; the word creek would probably not peak your interest, but the mouth of the creek is like a scene out of a movie. Pods of dolphins are commonly seen soaring gracefully through the water during the hot afternoons. Though not shy of humans, it is advised to stay away from them for conservation reasons.
Burleigh Beach is the Gold Coasts own version of Bondi, and what’s not to love about it. The beach provides the perfect conditions for both relaxed swimming and surfing. Plus, the Burleigh Heads National Park borders the beach, so you’ve got magnificent views of the ocean and pine tree forests. Speaking of surfing, South Stradbroke island, which forms the northern point of the gold coast, is also recognised for its popular surf breaks, and wallaby raiders.
You read that correctly, the wallabies that live here are notorious for stealing bread and other food items from visitors, so keep your lunch close at hand. There are several more unique spots all over the strip, and if you’ve got the time, do check them all out, but most of all, enjoy the relaxation and beautiful scenery the Gold Coast has to offer.
