Hong Kong is one of two Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China, the other being Macau. Hong Kong has gained immense importance in the recent past as a global financial centre. While the region is more known for business travel, there are many sites that are worth seeing when in Hong Kong. These sites include Kennedy Town, the Tsing Ma Bridge, the Tian Tan Buddha and the sights of the Golden Bauhania Square.
Located in the heart of the Wan Chai District, the Golden Bauhania Square is a well known as the place where the handover of Hong Kong took place. Travellers who wish to visit the Square can request the concierge of their Wanchai hotel to arrange a visit, and resorts such as Dorsett Wanchai Hong Kong would conveniently arrange a tour of the Square with ease. While it is also known for the gold bauhinia flower sculpture as well as the flag raising ceremony, the Square has also had a new feature installed nearby i.e. the Ani-Com Park.
Ani-Com in Hong Kong refers to an Animation-Comic-Game entertainment and book fair. Previously known as the Hong Kong Comics Festival, it was renamed to Ani-Com Hong Kong in 2006. With a focus on Chinese Comics known as Manhua, animations and other games, the Convention is usually held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This Convention has made Ani-Com popular in Hong Kong and has led to the opening of the Ani-Com Park.
The Ani-Com Park can be classified as one of the first ‘selfie-themed’ parks in the world. The Park is replete with statues and sculptures of ani-com characters and is designed with the intention of showcasing and promoting Hong Kong comics. The sculptures are designed to be engaged in local activities such as playing Mahjong, or riding a tram, and the Park invites their visitors to take pictures and snap selfies with these characters.
The Ani-Com Park is certainly unique in its design, and makes for a unique experience when in Hong Kong.
