Sigiriya
Also known as the Lion Rock – Sigiriya was inhabited in the 3rd Century BC. Built by King Kasyapa, this monumental rock fortress has ruins of a fortified palace, a terraced garden, ancient wall graffiti, and immaculate rock paintings. No Sri Lankan tour is complete without a visit to the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress and a climb to its summit for unobstructed views of the island.
The sacred city of Kandy
The last capital of the ancient Kings of Sri Lanka – Kandy – is a sacred and cultural city on the island. Home to many Sri Lanka resorts and hotel establishments such as Theme Resorts and Spas, Kandy is now considered a tourist hub too. Kandy houses the sacred Temple of the Tooth also known as ‘Sri Dalada Maligawa’ and is the focal point of the annual procession known as the Esala Perahara that takes place in July/Aug.
Golden Dambulla Temple
One of the best-preserved cave-temple complexes with five sanctuaries, Dambulla is one of the most ancient cities in the country. The wonder of it all is the fact that these cave temples have been a sacred pilgrimage site for over 22 centuries!
Central Highlands
This wonderful spread of forestland is located in the South-central part of the island and is home to many plants and species of wildlife including the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Perfect for the adventure and nature lover.
