Celestial Seasonings, a groundbreaking Boulder, Colorado tea company was responsible for launching the internationally famous Celestial Seasonings Tour. This delightful tour takes the traveler through the tea factory and adjoining buildings. The tour is free of charge and visitors may sample any of the teas without charge.
The Celestial Seasonings pioneers John Hay, Mo Siegel and Peggy Clute and their colleagues were engaged in the gathering of flowers and herbs in the hills adjoining Boulder for the health food stores in the vicinity.
The fledgling company developed steadily in the 70s, marketing highly successful tea blends (eg Red Zinger and Sleepytime) and relocating to more extensive premises. After a series of changes in ownership the company expanded to custom-designed premises in Boulder and the company continued to thrive in the 90s. In 2000 Celestial Seasonings merged with The Hain Food Group to create the Hain Celestial Group.
The famed tour commences with the visitors being presented with a sample pack of tea. Amidst delightful aromas the guests are taken to the waiting room where they are given the opportunity to sample a variety of teas. A 10 minute video presentation provides background information about the creation of the company and the process of selecting ingredients for the teas.
Next the visitors are escorted to the factory where they may see at first hand the process of manufacturing the tea, from raw ingredients to the tea bag. Special rooms feature the different tea varieties, with the Mint Room in particular providing sensational flavours for the visitor. At the end of the tour the gift shop provides the visitors with the opportunity to select mementos of their choice. Not to be missed is the Celestial Café which offers delicious inexpensive food, and is decorated vividly with the company’s famous motifs.
