Right across on the east coast from the capital, Passikudah is just off Batticaloa. The travel time from Colombo to Passikudah is around 6 and half hours. The beach is filled with large numbers of visitors around the year. What makes the beach so special is that it is one of the few places where one could walk into the sea for approximately a kilometre. Seeing the number of visitors both local and international increase each year, the numbers of Pasikuda beach hotels has also been increasing.
The sandy beach and the crystal clear waters are ever so inviting that visitors come with their families and friends to enjoy a whole day of fun and activities. There are also water sporting facilities available on the beach by private operators as well as some of the hotels. Hotels such as Anantaya Resorts & Spa Passikudah offer an array of such activities. Passikudah is also regarded as a great place for those interested in surfing- even for beginners. There is also an annual open tournament that takes place here. Activities such as big game fishing and sunset fishing are also becoming increasingly popular in the area. If you manage to rise early then catching the sun rise from the East coast is one of the most mind-blowing experiences ever.
Given that it is a bay and the water is shallow because it is engulfed by natural reef there is a variety of tropical fish as well as corals present here which makes snorkelling a great experience. The 2km long beach is ideal for long strolls or you can spread your beach towel and just lie down absorbing all the sun’s rays. The weather throughout the year is pleasant.
There are also a number of stand-alone restaurants as well as restaurants in hotels that cook up scrumptious seafood dishes from the fresh catch.
