The Iconic Carang River
The Carang River is one of the most important rivers in Indonesia and one of the most prominent parts of the former Johor-Riau kingdom. A cruise down the river today will bring you past various historical structures such as Bayan Island, Kampung Bulang, Tanjungunggat, Kota Rebah and Penyengat Island.
The Tanjung Pinang International Dragon Boat Race
The boat race in Tanjung Pinang doesn’t only feature the dragon boat race but also a kayaking and canoeing competition with a price that is approximately IDR15 million. There are slippery Palm tree climbing, sack races and dance competition among others.
The Historical Connection
The 18th century made this region very popular as the island of Penyeng at was the twin-seat of the Johor-Riau Sultanate. The palace has been restored and you can visit it today. It is a wonderful depiction of both Javanese and Dutch architecture. There are also royal crypts and tombs.
