The best way to experience Bangkok is to spend time there; that said, if you have one day for sightseeing, here are some of the key things to do and see.
Morning
Look to stay at a centrally located Bangkok city hotel within easy reach of the Grand Palace, a must-visit site. This stunning complex features historical buildings and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew). Also, visit the nearby Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) and the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun).
Afternoon
Take a boat ride and tour the city’s famed khlongs or canals; follow this with a visit to the Jim Thompson House close to Pathumwan Princess Hotel which features diverse Southeast Asian and Thai art. Once done, head to the National Gallery where you can appreciate more art be it sculptures, paintings or portraits.
Evening
Enjoy some retail therapy amidst air-conditioned comfort at the MBK Centre, one of the most popular malls in Bangkok. It’s huge and has around 2,000 shops, so plan your visit carefully or else you will get side-tracked! You can buy souvenirs, clothing, electronics, fashion, handicrafts, mobile phones and more.
Night-time
Depending on your preferences, choose one or a few activities to enjoy the nightlife in Bangkok. You can take a dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River, enjoy the cultural show at Siam Niramit or watch some ladyboy cabaret. Other options include exploring famed Khao San Road and club-hopping at Sukhumvit or RCA.
