If you’re in Bangkok for a day and would like to explore as much as you can within Thailand’s capital, there’s no shortage of sites to check out. While it is certainly impossible to explore every corner of the city in a single day, there are a few sites and neighbourhoods that are worth a quick visit.
The Grand Palace
This is the city’s most famous landmark and is easily a short distance away from any Bangkok suite hotel. The palace complex was built in 1782 and was used as the home of the Thai king, the royal court and the administrative seat of government for 150 years.
Wat Phra Kaew (Within the Grand Palace)
Also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, this is one of the temples within the Grand Palace and is a must-visit on your tour of the Palace. The temple houses a greatly revered Emerald Buddha statue that dates back to the 14th century.
Chinatown
You can make a stop at Bangkok’s Chinatown neighbourhood for a quick lunch or afternoon snack as the area is teeming with aromatic food stalls and eateries that serve some of the city’s best street food. While you’re there you can also visit the vibrant streets of Talat Noi that feature Bangkok’s colourful street art.
Asiatique Riverfront Mall
This open-air shopping centre is a great place to visit if you are in or around the Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel. It features over 1500 stores and food stalls and includes an open-air theatre, a Ferris wheel and several other entertainment options.
