As the country’s promotion campaign tagline states, Malaysia is “Truly Asia” and here’s a useful guide to help you plan getaways to this enchanting destination.
Where to Go
You will be spoilt for choice for places to visit though it will depend on your interests too. Kuala Lumpur, the capital, is a favourite but there are many more options; consider Penang with its George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site, the sun-kissed shores of Langkawi, the idyllic Cameron Highlands and Sarawak in Borneo to name a few!
Accommodation
Accommodation is easy to find be it in Kuala Lumpur or the Penang area of Bukit Mertajam. Apartments are ideal and properties like Sky Residence Prai offer modern living spaces with kitchenettes too. Stay at reputed hospitality brands for superior service and a central location and join any loyalty member programme for added benefits.
When to Travel
Firstly, there isn’t a bad time for visiting because there’s always something to experience! That said, peninsular Malaysia’s west coast is best enjoyed from November to March which is the dry season; though showers arrive in the wet season it won’t be for too long. For travel to the east coast, the peak period is April to October.
Packing Tips
Since the weather is generally hot and humid, pack cotton or linen attire in light colours. Remember that this is a Muslim nation and when visiting mosques or other sacred sites, wear attire that covers bare shoulders and legs. When packing, also include plenty of sunscreen, a hat, swimwear, a plug adapter and sturdy walking shoes.
