The gateway to the famed Angkor Wat, Siem Reap in north-western Cambodia has much to offer intrepid travellers and here are some tips to help you plan a visit.
Accommodation
To fully experience this destination, find accommodation that is within easy reach of the city and key attractions; options include Anantara Angkor Resort, only 15 minutes from Angkor Wat and 10 minutes from Siem Reap. Ideally, the property should also offer dining, spa rituals, airport transfers and excursions.
Angkor Wat
The main attraction is the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For those based at a nearby boutique hotel, Siem Reap adventures to this site should include visits to the famed Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple. You get tickets that cover one, three or seven days and the ruins can be explored by foot or bicycle.
Getting Around
Apart from resort organised excursions, there are several transport options. The remork or Cambodian tuk-tuk offers one of the easiest ways to get about though negotiate the price before you set off. You can also walk around the city or rent a bicycle or electric bike (Green e-bike), while motorcycle taxis are available too.
Things to Do
For enriching discoveries, head off on countryside tours to local villages and jungle waterfalls. You can also visit the well-known Floating Village on Tonle Sap Lake as well as enjoy horse riding, ziplining and golfing.
