While you may be planning all the things you can do in Mauritius, don’t forget to also look into the available transport options; here’s a quick overview of what to expect.
Taxis
An easy way to get around the island is by taxis which can be found especially around main tourist areas providing access to places like Blue Bay Mauritius. Hotels in this part of the island are near the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport making them easy to get to as well. Keep in mind that taxis don’t have meters so always check and agree on a price before your journey begins.
Bicycles
A great way to explore this destination is via bicycle with plenty of pedal-powered adventures in store! Bicycle rentals are available here, while properties like Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas offer a complementary activity programme with cycling to Pont Naturel to enjoy pristine natural landscapes and magnificent ocean views.
Buses
Public buses are the main mode of transport for the locals, and one will come across covered bus stops in various locations around the island. The schedule for these buses will vary according to the route and they run between 10- to 30-minute intervals. The schedule and routes can be found at some bus stops, while locals will generally check with the station master as well.
Keep in Mind
Mauritius doesn’t have a complicated transport network and features three main roads; of these, the main one is the M1 which connects the airport in the southeast to the capital, Port Louis, while providing access to other cities. As with other destinations, rush hour in the mornings (around 8 to 9) and evenings (around 4 to 5) is when you will come across the most traffic so be mindful when planning your travels at these times.
