November to April is the greatest time to go whale watching in Mirissa. Whales are migrating from the southern to the northern hemisphere in a calm ocean. The off-season lasts from May to October; the ocean is choppy and not worth the trip. Both the likelihood of seeing whales and the likelihood of becoming seasick are quite low.
What are the chances of actually spotting one?
There is a 98% likelihood of seeing whales from November to April. Remember that you will encounter wild animals, so spotting whales cannot be guaranteed. Most frequently, blue whales are sighted. Sperm whales, fin whales, Bryde’s whales, short-finned whales, dolphins, and on occasion killer whales and whale sharks, are also commonly seen.
