Offering something for solo adventurers, couples and families alike, Oman is the ideal holiday destination, though here are some things you should know when planning your trip.
Diverse Destinations
Consider which places to visit from the bustling capital, Muscat, to the idyllic coastline of Salalah. In Oman, luxury resorts can even be found amidst the stunning landscapes of the Green Mountain with Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort being an ideal example. For something different, you could even consider a mobile camping adventure in the deserts of Dhofar.
Appropriate Attire
Since this is a Muslim nation, the culture is more conservative and when out in public, one should be careful to dress appropriately. Ideally, when out and about, wear clothing that covers bare shoulders and legs. Women don’t need to cover their heads unless they are visiting a mosque, while bikinis, revealing swimwear or speedos should be avoided at public beaches.
Health & Safety
Oman has a good health system with modern hospitals and pharmacies in the main cities. Restaurants and cafes follow good food hygiene practices, while tap water is safe to drink as well. Do keep in mind that temperatures can sometimes hit 40°C so stay well hydrated and use sunscreen. Additionally, this is a very safe country so you can travel without worry too.
Money Matters
Rial is the currency of Oman and one can find money changers at the airports. ATMs are available throughout the country, most of which will accept major cards including Mastercard and Visa. Banks can also be easily found to change foreign cash or traveller’s cheques. Apart from using a credit card, have some local currency for emergencies or when visiting places like a market.
