Khao Lak, Thailand is famous for being an exciting destination with many adrenaline-pumping activities and gorgeous beaches. After a long day of diving, snorkelling and island hopping the best way to wind down are with some retail therapy; but don’t expect mega malls here. You can find fresh markets and handcraft stores and small supermarkets selling local products. So, book your resorts in Khao Lak and this guide will point you to the best shopping spots.
Bang Niang Market
Even if you don’t need anything in particular you must head down to the Bang Niang market. The market is open from 10 am to 11 pm every day so you can take your sweet time exploring every nook and cranny of this large shopping area. It is only an 11 min drive from hotels in the area such as Avani+ Khao Lak Resort plus there are so many street food stalls for you to try out.
Nang Thong Supermarket
Located in the centre of La On, this supermarket is nothing like you find at home. It is an unassuming, medium-sized store but when you go inside it is a pandora’s box of goodies. There is nothing you cannot find here; if you suddenly run out of diapers for your kid or toothpaste or even if you’re craving a salty-sweet snack, Nang Thong supermarket is the place to be.
Khuk Khak Fresh Market
This is where the locals get all their fresh produce. So, if you want a bit of that local flavour head down to Khuk Khak market. Somewhat akin to a farmers’ market, here you can find fresh fruit and vegetables that are daily essentials but also exotic treats that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet. There are also plenty of vendors selling tasty homemade snacks too.
TT Plaza
TT Plaza is another shopping precinct you cannot miss. Here you can buy anything from toys and beachwear to electronics. This market-like shopping centre is spread across 2000 m2. There are also snack stalls all over the place and right at the front of the building as well, so you can refresh yourself, replenish all that lost energy and shop to win!
