Surabaya is regarded as a city filled with many gifts from the Dutch colonial period. Among the amazing buildings and structures here in this city, the Heroes Monument takes a significant place.
What’s it for?
In 1945, hundreds of Suarabhaya citizens had to sacrifice their lives at the Battle of Surabhaya. They fought against the Allied and Dutch forces who secretly launched missions to take Indonesia under their control once again.
It’s a famous landmark today
The Heroic Monument is to pay tribute to the patriotic men who stood against injustice for the sake of their motherland. This monument is built on 2.5 hectares of land. The monument takes an unusual shape of an upside-down nail.
The museum
To educate the younger generation about the past, the Government decided to establish a museum here, which is now known as the Perjuangan Sepuluh Museum. Festivals held here
