If ever there was a time for a tropical escape to spend getting away from it all, it would be now! The Maldives is perfect for this; here are some travel tips to help you plan a holiday.
Arrival & Transfers
The main Velana International Airport is in Hulhule near the capital, Male; there are also several other international and domestic airports in the Maldives. Villas and bungalows can be found at island resorts which can be reached by seaplane and / or speedboat. Alternatively, there are ferries to local islands.
Accommodation
While you will find guesthouses and hotels on local islands, well worth considering is a stay at private island resorts such as Kuramathi Maldives. Apart from overwater or beach villas, such properties offer water sports, spa rituals, kids’ clubs, dining options, entertainment and more for family fun or romance.
Local Weather
The best weather with sun-filled days is in the high season from November till around April. Rates are generally higher though you can find some great deals too. From May till October the monsoon brings rains but don’t fret; this means fewer crowds and reduced rates, while you still get days with sunshine too!
Customs & Regulations
Since this is a Muslim nation, it has strict regulations in place; you cannot bring alcohol into the country and neither will it be served in public places. You also have to dress conservatively in local islands covering bare shoulders and legs. However, such rules don’t apply to private islands where you can enjoy cocktails and wear your favourite bikini!
