Amongst the sumptuous palatial edifices that grace the Bangkok skyline, a few out of the way structures present their own measure of charm that is a delight to explore, such as the Chitralada Palace. Soak in the splendour of Thailand’s royalty when you choose to invest in some stylish Sukhumvit accommodation that features some excellent Bangkok serviced apartments which is what you’ll encounter at the Anantara Baan Rajprasong Bangkok. One of the city’s lesser known yet still equally exquisite royal residences come in the form of the Chitralada Palace. It is Bangkok’s Buckingham Palace, as it functions as the official royal residence of the current monarchs King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and Queen Sirikit. The king was the first monarch of the Chakri Dynasty to reside here, and made the decision to move there from the Grand Palace following the death of his brother, Rama VIII, at the Grand Palace. The entire palace complex extends for around four square kilometers, and contains the expansive Chitralada palace (forming part of the Dusit Palace), as well as the grounds and the Chitralada school, which is the most exclusive private school in the country. The complex is protected by palace guards and a scenic moat, which you can walk around on a wide, paved pathway. The palace is a gorgeous spectacle to behold once dusk falls, as it is brightly lit up and affords excellent photo opportunities, although visitors need a special pass to entire the palace premises itself.
