Laos is sandwiched between the more popular known Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam but is slowly coming into the limelight as a place that is popular with backpackers and other tourists searching for a holiday destination off the beaten track.
Transportation
If you are flying into Laos from abroad, you will land at one of two airports; Luang Prabang or Vientiane. Travelling within Laos is mostly done by buses, tuk-tuks or rented bikes. The option of renting a car or a bike is advised even if it costs significantly more as there will be less transport-related hassle.
Attractions
There are many attractions in Laos, but it is a must to visit Luang Prabang which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and houses the former royal palace, monasteries and other wonderful remnants of the country’s history. Thanks to its burgeoning popularity, it would be very easy to find a good hotel in Luang Prabang to make your base.
Vang Vieng Tubing is the party scene of Laos where tubing down the river is an adrenaline-pumping past time that all visitors must try.
Accommodation
As mentioned before, making Luang Prabang your base camp would put you in a good steading to plan your trips around the country. There are plenty of luxury resorts in the area such as Avani + Luang Prabang which is only a 12-minute drive from the airport.
Food & Culture
When in Laos, you must try its cuisine which is similar to that of Thailand but with stark differences. Also, on the list is kaafee thung coffee and lao-lao rice wine.
