Ghana’s capital city Accra is home to vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches and awe-inspiring art galleries. Even though geographically it is considered a small city, it offers a large variety of places to visit and lots of things to do.
Oxford Street
This is one of Accra’s busiest streets that is home to upscale bars and some of the top restaurants in the city. Shopping fans will be delighted to find stores selling pirated DVDs, football jerseys and even fake Rolex watches! It is also the ideal place to buy handicrafts made by Ghanaian women, the ideal choice for mementoes and souvenirs.
The art scene
If you’re staying at one of the apartments in Accra such as the Kwarleyz Residence Accra and a lover of contemporary art you’ll be amazed by the colourful art that can be found in Accra. Kente cloth, cool masks, metal sculptures and Asafo flags are some of the nifty items that show-off how significant art is in the city.
Labadi Beach
This is the most popular beaches in Accra. Restaurants that line the beach serve cool beer and spicy fried fish. Locals come here to enjoy a quick dip on a hot day and dance to hip music. Swimming on this beach isn’t recommended as the waves tend to get quite rough.
The National Museum
If you want to learn more about Ghana’s history and the slave trade of the Atlantic this is a great place to visit. The museum is made up of 3 sections and offers visitors with a fascinating glimpse of Ghana’s past.
