Located a mere five hundred metres off the coast of Abu Dhabi, the Saadiyat Island is being developed as a centre for leisure. All travellers visiting Abu Dhabi should definitely try to visit Saadiyat Island. It is only twenty minutes from the airport and is sure to be plenty of fun. Once development is completed in 2020, the island will serve as the cultural nerve centre of the rapidly growing emirate.
As part of the emirate’s cultural initiative, the island will have a cultural district which will feature a Guggenheim museum that will contain works of art sourced especially for the gallery as well as works belonging to the Guggenheim foundation; a Louvre Museum; and the Zayed National Museum. A few of these places are still under construction and will not be open for a few years. Fortunately, the Saadiyat Cultural District is not the only attraction here and one can still have plenty of fun on the island.
There is the Saadiyat Marina, which will contain berths for around one thousand boats and a maritime museum; Saadiyat Beach, which will contain nearly ten kilometres of beach (keep an eye out for the iconic hawksbill turtles) and a lovely golf course; Saadiyat Lagoon, which has a tidal lagoon system; Saadiyat Promenade, a district where the focus will be on leisure, and Saadiyat Reserves, which will also contain another golf course.
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates and has become quite a popular tourist destination in recent times. The emirate has excellent infrastructure. The public transport system is efficient and fairly extensive and even though the street layouts are more car-oriented, it can be quite useful. Good restaurants are plentiful and tourists who want to sample the scrumptious local cuisine will have plenty of options.
Accommodation choices are just as plentiful although those who want to enjoy the best luxury hotels Abu Dhabi will have to look no further than the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara. It is one of the finest Abu Dhabi hotels around offering distinguished service and all the best amenities.
