Indonesia has some of the most beautiful tropical destinations the planet has to offer. Many would immediately think about Bali where these are concerned, but there’s more than meets the eye.
What and Where
The Nusa Penida is an island that is situated south-east of Indonesia’s most popular island of Bali. The two landmasses are separated by the Badung Strait. Nusa Penida is popular for being a lot more tranquil and nature-focused as opposed to the more tourist-centric nature of Bali.
Bird Sanctuary
Nusa Penida and the nearby islands of Lembongan and Ceningan are all classified as bird sanctuaries and are a result of regulations imposed by the traditional communities of the respective landmasses. This happened when all of the 41 villages that are scattered among the islands decided to integrate bird-protection into their laws.
Dive Sites
Some of the best dive sites in the area are actually found within the boundaries of Nusa Penida, and these include Toyapakeh, Malibu Point, Manta Bay and Crystal Bay. If you’re a scuba-diving enthusiast residing at a nearby Bali resort or hotel along the likes of Anantara Seminyak Bali Resort be sure to visit this island.
Broken Beach
This is one of the most beautiful spots in Nusa Penida and is a sheltered bay that was once a cave whose roof has since collapsed.
