Thailand is a cultural wonderland and there’s so much to be experienced in this captivating country. Some of the best places of cultural significance, however, tend to lie off the beaten path.
What is this Wat?
Wat Plai Laem is a Buddhist Temple and is not an ancient temple much like the usual places of religious significance. It was built quite recently and has a strikingly modern ambience to it.
The Statue
What is remarkable about this temple is the statue, which surprisingly does not belong to Lord Buddha. Instead, it depicts the goddess Guanyin, who is associated with mercy and compassion. This statue is massive and has 18 arms.
Thai Meets Chinese
Another manner in which this temple is unique is in its union of Thai and Chinese beliefs, while also managing to retain its status as a Buddhist temple. The design of the temple is also greatly inspired by Chinese architectural styles and was made in collaboration with Thai artist Jarit Phumdonming.
Special Appearances
You can also find shrines dedicated to Hindu gods within this temple, and these gods include Ganesha, Vishnu, and Shiva. If you find yourself vacationing at one of many a Koh Samui villa resort situated nearby, such as Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort, then a visit is highly recommended.
