Dubai is a favourite tourist destination, renowned for its high-end visitors. Not being the least expensive tourist destination, however, a vacation in Dubai requires that you are able to spend. Overshadowing the financial requirements, however, is the Dubai culture, which is a must learn for any visitor to ensure a peaceful and respectful holiday.
Being a component of the Middle East, Dubai’s main religion in Islam, bringing with it the rules and regulations of any Islamic nation. However, Emirati is accustomed to visitors and do not hold the visiting tourists to the same high standards as themselves. Having said that, it is still forbidden for the residential Emirati to engage in the multitude of entertainment activities offered by the city, ensuring that when you visit Dubai, you are somewhat restricted within a touristy area as opposed to a residential area.
The Emirati attire is one thing you need to get right. The men are usually found wearing the dishdasha, which is a long white shirt-dress, along with a white headdress called ghutra which is held in place by an agal, a rope. The women are usually attired in a long black cloak called the abaya, with a hijab covering their face and head. You, as a visitor, will not be required to dress in these traditional clothing. However, it is highly advisable that females wear dresses or trousers that cover up to their knees when walking in public places. These restrictions do not apply to your hotel premises, though. For example, if you wear a pair of shorts and roam the 160-acre grounds of Desert Palm PER AQUUM, which is a boutique hotel, Dubai cultural regulations will have no problem with it. These cultural restrictions, though, mean that you need to be careful when photographing. It is in the best interest of everyone if you inquire whether it is allowed to take photographs at a certain location before you aim your camera.
