The Rasmee Dhandu Stadium is a versatile stadium in the city of Male, but it is mostly used for football matches of the Dhivehi League, FAM Cup and International matches. The Dhivehi League is the official football league of Maldives which commemorated in 2000 and 15 years later was renamed as the Dhivehi Premier League by the Football Association of Maldives, a member of FIFA and AFC. The League includes participation of 8 teams who compete for the champion’s trophy. Due to the diverse community of Maldives and its islands, the Football Association allows for football teams that compete in the League to have three foreign players and one Asian player. The League is usually sponsored by two of the largest telecommunication networks in Maldives.
The stadium boasts to hold a capacity of around 11,000 spectators, making it the biggest stadium in Maldives. The stadium was recently renovated in order to upgrade and install some key facilities within its premises, which included a media box that was built specifically for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup. Following the renovation in 2014, the stadium was re-named as the National Football Stadium.
