Also known as Port Arthur this prominent part of Dalian presents a destination that is ripe with both natural beauty and various historical attractions. It is this legacy that has left the area as a historical treasure trove.
The Garden of Lions and Tigers allows visitors to traverse through three distinct areas each of which features lions, tigers and bears respectively from the safety of a car. Two other important nature related attractions that can be found here are the Island of Snakes and the Bird Station. The Island of Snakes is a small 2km island inhabited by an immense variety of snakes in addition to a snake museum which offers further insights. The Bird Station on the other hand is a volcano that is located close to the Island of Snakes and is the landing spot for millions of migratory birds.
Several Cold War Era historical sites can also be found that strongly mark the island’s history as a conflict zone. This includes the Russo-Japanese War Site which houses a museum showcasing important artefacts from during the war, while the Cemetery for Soviet Martyrs is the burial site of soviet soldiers who fought in the region in several different conflicts.
The final war artefact that is present on Lushun is one dedicated to the many Chinese people who died during the Japanese occupation. Their ashes were ordered to be burned at foot of White Jade Hill. After the Japanese were driven out, a monument was constructed to pay homage to those who lost their lives during the occupation.
