The advantages of Wuxi are many. A wealth of natural and human resources, a thriving economy which has been identified as one of the fifteen economic hubs of China, being one of the birthplaces of China’s modern industry and the main transport nexus between three provinces (both the Shanghai-Nanjing railway and expressway run through the city) is only scratching the surface when it comes to this historic city. All this taken in conjunction with its rich cultural heritage and landscape dotted with placid lakes and meandering rivers, Wuxi has become one of the ten most popular tourist destinations in China. As such, it is the ideal city for leisure travelers.
Of the many cultural and scenic amusements in Wuxi, there are a handful of undoubtedly iconic landmark sites without a visit to which no tour of the city is complete. The Lingshan Great Buddha is such a one; at 88 feet, this giant bronze effigy enjoys the distinction of being the largest Buddha statue in the world. Inclusive of its lotus flower pedestal, this recently-built construct achieves a total height of 100 meters. The Buddha is erected on a hill, facing peaceful Lake Taihu, one of the more famous water bodies of the city. The Turtle’s Head Islet is located upon this lake, which is actually a stretch of rock taking the shape of a turtle’s head. A 375 meter bridge by the name of Baojie Bridge connects this islet to the famous Liyuan Garden.
The Liyuan Garden is one of the most scenic places in the city, featuring pavilions, lakeside causeways and artificial hills resembling cloud formations riddled with spiraling paths. Its chief rival is Xihui Park, which is a collection of hills, forests, cultural relics and leisure centres. This park, which draws thousands of tourists every year, boasts many temples and venues of casual amusement including Yingshan Lake. Foolish Old Man Valley, No.2 Fountain under Heaven of Tang Dynasty and Huanggong Ravine are only a few of the numerous attractions contained herein. Other than these, theme parks such as the Three Kingdoms, Tang City and Water Margin City are also relatively new but very popular amusements.
One of the most important factors of successful leisure travel is finding a suitable Wuxi hotel at the best access point in the area. If you’re accustomed to conducting your tours in the lap of luxury, the Millennium Wuxi is a highly-recommended choice. This five star Hotel Wuxi is situated at the heart of the New District and yet enjoys serenity and seclusion in a setting of enormous landscaped gardens.
