Khalifa Park is a public park that was opened in 2007. The park is one of the emirate’s largest and most ambitious projects, with a holding capacity of around 5000 people. It is touted as the best public park in Abu Dhabi. Khalifa Park looks like something right out of a postcard, which makes it evident that plenty of thought and consideration has gone into its planning. Drawing inspiration from Arabic and Islamic architecture, the park has several water features. The canal is the largest of them all, and is an oasis of calm and quiet. There are also plenty of lakes and fountains.
The Grand Avenue is a beautifully landscaped avenue, complete with bubbling fountains and carefully trimmed hedges. It offers access to all parts of the park. The park also contains a Maritime Museum, tracing Abu Dhabi’s history, from prehistoric times to the current era. The highlight of the museum is the Time Tunnel, where a monorail carries visitors through a living history display. Big events are sometimes held here too. The Khalifa Park Amphitheatre, with a seating capacity for 3200 people, is the venue for concerts, parades, live shows and other performances. A theme park provides holidaying families with plenty of thrilling rides to enjoy.
Khalifa Park has its own train which takes visitors on a whirlwind tour. It is a terrific way of getting around, especially for those who do not have much time to spare. The park is located behind the old Abu Dhabi airport at Eastern Ring Road. The token admission fee is to discourage loiterers.
The emirate has a pleasant weather throughout the year, and tourists can capitalise on that by finding luxury Abu Dhabi hotels by the beach. Those looking for Abu Dhabi beach hotels can try the Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara. Offering brilliant views of the Arabian Gulf, it is the ideal place to stay.
