Koh Phangan is an island located South East of Thailand, in Thailand’s Gulf. The beach island is famous for its full moon parties which take place every month on the night of the full moon. Than Sadet is a popular beach found on the east coast of the island. Its name means “Royal Stream” and is a tribute to King Rama V, who visited that particular area of Koh Phangan more than 10 times. The beach is also sometimes referred to as Haad Sadet. There are two ways to reach the beach. One is by the Thong Nai Pan Express Boat, and the other is through a rugged pathway, off the road that connects Ban Tai and Thong Nai Pan. The National Park and the Than Sadet Waterfall are also situated nearby, the former famously favourite spot of King Rama V. The park is home to an amazing variety of flora and fauna, and has some excellent hiking trails.
Tourists who visit the waterfall should keep an eye out for a rock containing the initials of the king. The initials were carved into the rock by the king who in the process established a tradition of sorts- two of his predecessors (King Rama IX and King Rama VII) both carved their initials into rocks at the waterfall. It is an enchanting spot for a picnic, and the gorgeous landscape provides many photo opportunities.
