The park has been named after Than Sadet meaning Royal River and this river forms the biggest waterfall in the islet. A number of kings have visited it and amongst them King Rama V stands out as he liked it very much and visited it as many as fourteen times. This river meets the sea at Than Sadet Bay, and it is also a much loved spot for visitors as the sandy beach is a great spot for visitors to the park to relax and have a good time.
The land here is largely mountainous and there are a number of islands in the vicinity as well. The forest is also home to the highest peak in the island and it rises 627 meters above sea level. In the forest there are numerous flora and fauna to explore as well. It is home to a number of mammals such as javan mongoose, spectacled langur, monkeys, slow loris and cervus unicolour as well as many other animals. Birds here include white-bellied sea eagle, brahminy kite, hill mynas. There are also many reptiles that include snakes and cobras as well as king cobras. In the beach nearby there are octopus, squid and such marine life. For the nature lover there are lush green primary forests and dry forests with a lot of mountains and hilly areas as well as limestone rich areas.
