Breathing the fresh sea air and enjoying the warmth of the tropical sunlight against my skin while sipping the lip- smacking cocktail that the friendly bartender whizzed up especially for us, well what can I say – this is the life!
This is our fourth visit to Kalutara and it’s the second time we are staying at AVANI Kalutara, a luxury seaside resort that stole our hearts during the first visit. We’ve been in plenty of Kalutara Beach Hotels but this is one place that really delivered what was promised and so far we are highly impressed not only by the mouthwatering buffets that fill us up but also by the friendly and helpful staff that made our stay more than pleasant. During our last visit we stayed in a sea view room but this time we opted for a garden view room that overlooks the brilliantly landscaped massive garden of the hotel.
The hotel AVANI sits on the peninsular where the Kalu River meets the ocean. The river that originates from Adam’s Peak and reach the sea here in Kalutara measures up to 129km in length. When you travel within the town of Kalutara, you find locals bathing in this calm river that flows through Ratnapura to the Kalutara District.
We took delight in spending the day out on the Kalu River canoeing trip. The waters are deep tinted brown and relatively calm making it the ideal strength for canoeing. The lush vegetation that surrounded the river is something to look forward to seeing. There are plenty of tall bamboo tree and beautiful pink lotuses floating on the riverbed. Many young boys take boats to come pick these lotus flowers, which are then sold, near temples to the visitors.
