Even though Bali has no end of great surfing spots, Uluwatu is a place where surfing will be a lifetime memory. Located on the southern end of Bali, it combines powerful waves with an incredible view, and what more could one possibly want?!
Best Time to Visit Uluwatu
Surfing season is at its best during summer, ideally from June to August. The waves are big and move fast, so if you’re an experienced surfer, this is the time for you. If you want smaller, more relaxed waves, head over to Uluwatu between September and November. During this period you can learn the basics of surfing and practice so that you can be ready for the bigger summer waves.
Getting to Uluwatu
Uluwatu is a simple 40-minute ride from Bali Airport. If you are planning to take a taxi from the airport, make sure you book ahead of time, as you might have to spend double the amount if you order one upon arrival.
While Uluwatu feels like a real surf haven, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, it is close enough to the more popular areas such as Canggu so it doesn’t feel isolated.
Things to do in Uluwatu
Surfing is the most popular activity in Uluwatu, with the region having some of the best surf breaks in the world. Catch the waves at Uluwatu Beach or Padang Padang Beach if you’re an experienced surfer, or take part in a surf lesson if you’re a novice to the art of surfing.
While it may sound like surfing is the sole attraction in Ulawatu, things to do in the region are not limited to water sports excursions. You can explore the mainland of Bali by visiting landmarks such as the Uluwatu temple, located on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean.
You can also enjoy the delicious local cuisine of Bali, with dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Sate sure to make you want to come back for more. Tired of surfing? Recharge your body with a spa day, during your stay at resorts such as Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort that use local healing spices and techniques to give you the ultimate relaxing experience.
