Located on the western coast of Sri Lanka, Negombo is a major fishing village. With plenty of attractions, resorts, and the airport nearby, it’s a great location at which to base your stay and explore this region.
Negombo Beach
Head to the Negombo beach early in the morning and see the fishing boats setting off on their sail. It rarely gets any visitors on weekdays, so it is just the place to catch a seaside siesta. Numerous Negombo beach hotels border this area; you may find places like Club Hotel Dolphin among the finest.
St Mary’s Church
You will encounter dozens of small churches in Negombo, including St Mary’s Church, as it’s a predominantly Catholic locale. St Mary’s Church includes splendid and elegant architecture and several beautiful paintings.
Muthurajawela Wetlands
Muthurajawela Marsh is over 7,580 acres and lies south of the Negombo Lagoon. The environment is known for its valuable and diverse ecosystem and is among the 12 foremost marshlands in Sri Lanka.
Dutch Fort
This Dutch Fort dates back to 1678 and lies near the Negombo estuary. Nearby is a Green Esplanade where you can see some of the locals playing cricket. The fort buildings are on the Eastern facade, while more can be found near the Negombo prison complex.
