Pidurangala Temple
The historical Pidurangala rock cave temple is a magnificent monastery that provided a home for more than 500 Buddhist monks in ancient times. You will find a giant reclining Buddha statue inside the caves, and a few other statues, meditating and reclining statues as well. The rock gives a clear view of the Sigiriya rock from the top and is famous among the locals and foreigners for photographs. You can also find a few famous yoga retreats in Sri Lanka around the area such as the iconic Ayurvie Sigiriya to channel your zen.
Dambulla Golden Cave Temple
With hundreds of statues of Lord Buddha and gods, this natural cave temple is adorned by historical paintings and carvings. The caves have given shelter to King Walagamba in the 1st century BC. You will find one of the largest reclining Buddha statues carved out of stone in the first cave which is 15 metres long.
Minneriya National Park
One of the most scenic gifts of nature with a manmade lake by the side, this is where you will spot large herds of elephants, endemic monkey species, leopards, and sloth bears along with more than 170 bird species. The park is open from 6 am to 6.30 pm.
