As the home to Namibia’s only international airport, almost every traveller to the country will inevitably spend some time in Windhoek. But it is far from being just a pit stop and has many exciting things to offer.
To enjoy the best of Namibia
Many visitors to Namibia start their day in Windhoek by heading off to one of the country’s star attractions, such as Etosha, but spending at least a day in Windhoek is totally worth it. If you are looking at hotels in Windhoek, there are many options for you to choose from, including the likes of Avani Windhoek Hotel & Casino.
Starting the day
One of the best ways to start your day in Windhoek is by getting a little dose of flora and fauna by visiting the Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve. If you enjoy retail therapy, go shopping at the Namibia Craft Centre (NCC) for some handmade crafts, gifts, and trinkets.
Take a break and tour the city
Grab a cold drink and a bite to eat at one of Windhoek’s many great coffee shops and cafes near the NCC and embark on a walking tour of the city. Keep your eyes peeled for the highlights of the city – the famous Kudu statue, Gathemann Building, and the impressive Post Office building.
The after-dark scene
Windhoek’s nightlife scene is far from boring. Dance till you drop at one of the city’s many clubs or enjoy live music and dance performances at the Warehouse Theatre.
